Budget cuts mean NH prison remains empty

In a report on NBC Nightly News on the effects of reckless budgets cuts, Senator Shaheen discussed how cuts might stop the already-built Berlin Prison from opening. Keeping the empty prison open will cost taxpayers about $4 million this year. Senator Shaheen called this shortsighted.

“We have a $276 million prison that is brand-new, that is standing empty because Congress isn't willing to put in about $28 million to get it started,” Shaheen told NBC news reporter Kelly O'Donnell.
