SHAHEEN: JOBS FOR VETERANS SHOULD BE A BIPARTISAN ISSUE

(Washington, D.C.) – U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) released the following statement after the Veterans Job Corps Act (S.3457) was blocked from passing in the Senate this week.

“Helping veterans get back to work is good for the economy and the right thing to do for the men and women who have served our country in uniform.  Supporting veterans, and helping them transition into civilian jobs, is something that traditionally has been an issue supported by both parties. I am disheartened to see that was not the case this week.”

The Veterans Job Corps Act would put veterans to work and provide additional job-training. Veterans would be enlisted to help rebuild our nation’s infrastructure, including its roads, national parks, levees and recreational facilities.  The bill would also improve public safety by helping communities hire returning veterans as police officers, fire fighters and first responders.
