SHAHEEN ANNOUNCES MORE THAN $650,000 FOR GODFREY DAM REPAIRS IN BERLIN

(Washington, D.C.)-U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen today announced that the City of Berlin will receive $666,000 from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to make critical repairs to the Godfrey Dam in Berlin, which serves as the primary storage reservoir for the city's water supply.

"This critical infrastructure repair will help ensure that Berlin's water is clean and safe, an important aspect of public health," said Shaheen. "In addition, it is this type of investment in our communities that will help create jobs and support the North Country's economic recovery."

 "We are very appreciative of the work Senator Shaheen continues to do for the community of Berlin.  Her support in securing critical funding for Godfrey Dam, our primary water source is a very good thing for Berlin.  We are very thankful for Senator Shaheen's support and efforts of the staff at USDA Rural Development," said Berlin Mayor Paul Grenier.

In addition to helping fund repairs to the dam, these funds will be used to construct a pedestrian bridge to the dam so that it can be accessed safely by Berlin Water Works employees. The City of Berlin was also awarded a $234,000 Rural Development loan to help fund this project.
