Shaheen Slams Trump Administration’s Extreme Executive Order to Dismantle the U.S. Department of Education
(Washington, DC) – U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) released the following statement on President Trump’s destructive executive order to begin eliminating the U.S. Department of Education:
“Education is the single most important place we can invest to strengthen our nation’s innovation and future workforce. Congress created the Department of Education through federal law in order to invest in our next generations, and the President’s executive order intends to destroy the ability of the Department to support students around the country. This dangerous and shameful attempt to eliminate the U.S. Department of Education would only lead to education disparities between states and regions.
“Local control of education already exists. But educators in every state across this country rely on federal resources from the Department of Education to fuel programs that support students of all income brackets and learning abilities. If we’re going to compete with China and maintain our global leadership, the Trump administration better get serious about ensuring we have the educated workforce to do it.
“As I’ve said, I’m all for working together to find ways we can make the federal government more efficient and effective – but not at the expense of our children’s futures.”
