(Keene, NH) – This week, U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) visited Timken Super Precision, a manufacturer of high-precision ball bearings for defense and aerospace systems. During the visit, Shaheen toured their production facility and met with employees to discuss the work funded as part of a $13.8 million federal agreement to boost production at the Timken facility in Keene. These federal funds are allocated as part of the Department of Defense (DOD)'s Defense Production Act (DPA) Title III program.

“The supply chain disruptions our country faced during the pandemic made it clear that investing in New Hampshire’s manufacturing base is both an economic and national security priority,” said Senator Shaheen. “I visited Timken to see how they are using federal investments to continue expanding and upgrading their facilities to help bolster U.S. production of advanced aerospace and defense systems.”

Timken’s facility  in Keene manufactures high-precision ball bearings for defense and aerospace systems. Ball bearings are a type of tool and machinery component that carry loads and reduce rotational friction between two objects. They are made up of one or more rows of balls between two rings, known as raceways. Precision ball bearings are used in a range of critical systems, such as aircraft, spacecraft and missiles. They enable sensor movement, precision control and predictability of objects’ movements, making them a critical component to these technologies.

Senator Shaheen is a leader in the U.S. Senate to bolster the domestic defense industrial base to ensure U.S. troops have the cutting-edge equipment they need to defend the nation and deter adversaries. In early June, Shaheen toured three New Hampshire defense manufacturing facilities and met with the companies’ leadership ahead of a bipartisan congressional delegation visit to the Paris Air Show. Last month, Shaheen helped pass the NDAA Fiscal Year (FY) 2024 through the Senate. In the FY 2024 bill, she secured key provisions to support New Hampshire’s defense industrial sector, for companies such as BAE Systems in addition to federal dollars that support the workforce and suppliers that comprise New Hampshire’s submarine industrial base, among other priorities.
