Earlier this month, I traveled around our state to hear from Granite Staters on how a potential government shutdown would affect them, and one thing was clear: a shutdown would be a huge financial strain on our state.
Now that House Republicans are forcing our country down an uncertain path, I want to share some resources for families, veterans, small businesses and others who currently use federal programs and might need access to them during the potential shutdown.
For individuals and families:
- Click here to see financial assistance programs from the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services.
- Click here to find your local Community Action Agency of New Hampshire, which can help with housing, food assistance or your utilities bills like water or fuel assistance.
- Click here for a quick guide on food and nutrition assistance programs.
- Benefits will not be impacted for Granite Staters that receive Social Security benefits or use Federal health insurance like Medicare or Medicaid.
- Dial 211 from a 603 number or call 1-866-444-4211 to get connected with appropriate referrals and resources.
- If you need emergency mental health services you can call 988 nationwide or Call/Text 833-710-6477 for local assistance.
For Veterans and Service Members:
Note: Veterans Affairs (VA) health care and most veterans' benefits will continue to be available through a government shutdown, but certain other VA services will be affected. Contact your local VA office to learn more about the impact to non-health care services.
