Committee Approves Federal Funds For Food Bank
A new food bank is closer to becoming a reality after a Senate committee approved federal funds for the project.
U.S. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen announced that $1.25 million was approved by the Senate Appropriations Committee to help move the New Hampshire Food Bank to a larger location.
The total cost of the project is $7 million, and funding from New Hampshire Catholic Charities has allowed construction to start.
Food bank officials said the new facility will be double the size and allow more people to work in the building at once. Five delivery docks, compared to one in the current building, will allow more food to be delivered at once.
Workers at the food bank said the new facility is designed to meet the expected need for the next 10 years.
