New Hampshire delegation backs $25 million boost for clean water
KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen and Maggie Hassan, along with Representatives Annie Kuster and Chris Pappas, welcomed the EPA’s announcement of nearly $25 million in new federal funding for New Hampshire to improve drinking water infrastructure, including efforts to locate and eliminate lead pipes.
This funding comes as part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which was negotiated by Senators Shaheen and Hassan and supported by the entire New Hampshire Congressional delegation, according to a news release from Shaheen’s office. The EPA also unveiled a nationwide initiative to replace all lead pipes within the next 10 years.
Senator Shaheen expressed her commitment to clean water access for all Granite Staters, highlighting her role in negotiating the water provisions of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. “This is the largest federal investment in water infrastructure ever, and I’m thrilled to see more funding coming to New Hampshire to improve water systems across the state,” Shaheen said in the release.
Senator Hassan echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the importance of safe drinking water for families. “Thanks to the nearly $25 million in federal support, more New Hampshire families will have access to clean drinking water, free of lead contamination,” she noted.
Since the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law passed in 2021, New Hampshire has already received over $265 million for water infrastructure improvements. This latest $25 million addition further supports ongoing efforts to upgrade water systems, reduce contamination, and enhance public health across the state.
