Shaheen to lead delegation to world's largest trade show
WASHINGTON — U.S. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen is leading a bipartisan delegation of seven senators to the largest biennial trade show in the world later this month.
Aerospace, aviation and defense company executives will also be attending the Farnborough Air Show in Hampshire, England, from July 22-26.
Shaheen leads the group as a senior Democrat on the Senate Appropriations, Armed Services and Foreign Relations along with Sen. Jerry Moran, R-Kansas who is a ranking Republican on the Senate Appropriation and Commerce panels.
In 2023, New Hampshire aerospace companies exported $19 million in products to the United Kingdom, and 22% of all state exports come from the sector.
“When it comes to bolstering our defense and safeguarding our national security, there’s a lot of bipartisan collaboration and common ground in Congress,” Shaheen said.
“That’s why I’m looking forward to co-leading a bipartisan group of lawmakers to this global trade forum — reaffirming our shared commitment to supporting global markets and ensuring America stands safe and secure for generations to come.”
There are four Republicans and one other Senate Democrat who will also be attending the event.
In 2023, Shaheen and Moran led a similar group to the Paris Air Show.
The state Office of International Commerce will feature New Hampshire exhibitors attending through the State Trade Expansion Program (STEP) which provides export assistance to small businesses.
In 2010, Shaheen wrote the law that created the STEP program and has sponsored legislation aimed at making it easier for businesses to use.
Last Friday, Shaheen led a discussion at Manchester Community College on the recently completed NATO Summit in Washington. Shaheen was the co-chairman of the U.S. Senate NATO Observer Group that Sen. Thom Tillis, R-North Carolina, and Shaheen reestablished through legislation in 2018.
The state chapter of the World Affairs Council sponsored that event.
