FRIDAY IN NEW CASTLE: SHAHEEN TO TOUR U.S. COAST GUARD STATION, HIGHLIGHT DAMAGING CONSEQUENCES OF DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY SHUTDOWN
LATER, AT HARVARD UNIVERSITY: Shaheen to Participate in John F. Kennedy Jr. Panel Discussion on Women in Politics
U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) will meet with Rear Admiral Linda L. Fagan Commander of the First Coast Guard District at the U.S. Coast Guard Station Portsmouth Harbor to discuss the potentially damaging consequences of a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) shutdown, Friday, February 20 at 11:15 a.m. in New Castle. Shaheen will tour the station with Admiral Fagan and receive a briefing on the critical operations of the station. DHS funding is set to expire at the end of the month, threatening Coast Guard operations as well as border security, cybersecurity, the Secret Service and other national security initiatives. Last month, Shaheen introduced legislation to fund DHS operations through the remainder of fiscal year. Following the briefing and tour Shaheen will hold a media availability at the Coast Guard Station Building.
Later, Shaheen will participate in a panel discussion at the John F. Kennedy Jr. Forum at Harvard University on the role of women in politics and elected office. The panel, titled “Women in Power: The Impact of “Critical Mass,” will take place in Cambridge at 4:30 p.m.
Media planning to attend should RSVP to Nick Brown at Nick_Brown@shaheen.senate.gov.
