Shaheen, Hassan Announce $4.7 Million in AmeriCorps Funding for New Hampshire Programs

(Washington, DC) – U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Maggie Hassan (D-NH) announced today that New Hampshire has received $4,767,926 in AmeriCorps funding from the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), the federal agency that administers AmeriCorps and other national service programs. The funding from CNCS will support 232 AmeriCorps members in New Hampshire. The funding is an increase of more than $600,000 from last year’s funding level. 

“From working in our schools, to helping survivors of domestic violence, to assisting those in recovery from substance use disorder – AmeriCorps programs help deliver critical services to Granite Staters throughout New Hampshire. The important work done by AmeriCorps members on behalf of our communities is so important, which is why I’m pleased to see this federal funding returned to New Hampshire – and at a higher level than last year,” said Senator Shaheen. “As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I’ll always fight for strong federal funding for national service, and I will continue to oppose the administration’s efforts to eliminate national service programs.” 

“This increased funding will help support organizations that strengthen our communities and help some of our most vulnerable Granite Staters,” Senator Hassan said. “The AmeriCorps program contributes to the vital work of these organizations and instills in Corps members important skills to prepare them for their futures, and I’ll keep working to ensure that the program has the resources it needs.” 

The federal funding will support AmeriCorps members at City Year New Hampshire, the Student Conservation Association, the New Hampshire Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence, Goodwill Industries of Northern New England, the Squam Lakes Association, Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital and Harbor Homes. 

AmeriCorps engages more than 75,000 Americans every year in intensive service at places across the country, including nonprofits, schools, public agencies, and community and faith-based groups.
