15 TAX FACTS IN 15 DAYS: SHAHEEN DEBUTS ONLINE SERIES ABOUT IMPORTANCE OF TAX REFORM
(Washington, D.C.) – For the 15 days leading up to April 15th, U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) will be posting a fact each day on her Facebook and Twitter pages to let constituents know why comprehensive tax reform is crucial.
“For the 15 days leading to Tax Day, I’ll be sharing a fact each day on my Facebook and Twitter pages to show why we need comprehensive tax reform and a fairer system,” Shaheen said. “Right now the tax code is too long, too complicated, and puts too high a burden on middle class families and American businesses. Comprehensive tax reform is a crucial piece of solving our deficit problems, along with necessary reforms to our domestic, military and mandatory spending. As Americans face the annual ritual of preparing their tax returns, I hope they will join me in calling for reform to our outdated tax system.”
In her posts, Shaheen will address a range of issues, from tax inequity and the Buffet rule to tax compliance burdens and egregious tax breaks. Senator Shaheen has consistently called for comprehensive tax reform as a necessary part of any bipartisan plan to tackle our deficits and debt.
Every Twitter post will include the hashtag: #15TaxFacts.
The first facts she shared on April 1st and April 2nd are below:
- We lose more revenue in tax loopholes and breaks every year than we take in through personal income taxes.
- Why does Warren Buffett, a man worth $44 billion, pay a lower tax rate than the average American? The average effective rate is 13.5 %. He pays 11 %. That means he’s paying a lower rate than his own secretary.
