SHAHEEN STATEMENT ON PRESIDENT OBAMA’S STATE OF THE UNION ADDRESS
(Washington, D.C.) – U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) released the below statement following President Obama's State of the Union address to a joint session of Congress:
“In his speech tonight, the President focused on what has long been my number one priority—creating jobs for the American people. He challenged Congress to work together to find bipartisan solutions to our economic problems.
“To foster economic growth, the President spoke of the need to concentrate on energy—an area where I know from experience there is both much potential for job creation and significant bipartisan agreement.
“Together with my seatmate at tonight’s address, Republican Senator Rob Portman of Ohio, I introduced a national energy efficiency strategy that would help create jobs and save businesses and consumers money. It represents the kind of growth-oriented, bipartisan legislation that we need, and Congress should move forward with it this year.
“By working across the aisle to turn job-creating proposals like this one into law, I believe, as the President does, that our best days aren’t behind us, but are still to come.”
