Following Her Review of Intelligence, Shaheen Issues Statement Regarding Russian Bounties to Kill American Servicemembers in Afghanistan
(Washington, DC)—U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), a senior member of the Senate Armed Services and Foreign Relations committees, issued the following statement after reviewing classified intelligence regarding Russian bounties to kill American servicemembers in Afghanistan:
“The American people deserve answers as to why the Trump administration appears to have taken no immediate action to protect our troops,” said Shaheen. “The Commander in Chief has no more sacred duty than to lead and protect our men and women in uniform. At a minimum, President Trump should rescind his decision to withdraw troops from Germany immediately and abandon all efforts to re-admit Russia to the G8. Neither of these policies are in the security interests of the United States and are gifts to the Kremlin. It’s time for President Trump to recognize Putin for the adversary that he is and develop a strong, comprehensive response to Kremlin aggression.”
