FRIDAY: SHAHEEN TO ADDRESS THE NEW ENGLAND COUNCIL’S CONGRESSIONAL LUNCHEON
Shaheen will also view the condition of the Sewalls Falls Road Bridge and tour a housing development that utilizes energy efficient practices
U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) will address the New England Council’s Congressional Luncheon at the Bedford Village Inn in Bedford, NH on Friday, September 13 at 12:00 p.m. Shaheen will offer an update on the Energy Savings and Industrial Competiveness Act, her bipartisan energy efficiency bill, as well as other pieces of Senate legislation. In 2011, the New England Council honored Shaheen with their annual “New Englander of the Year” award.
Earlier in the day, Shaheen will tour the Sewalls Falls Road Bridge in Concord, NH at 11:00 a.m. The Sewalls Falls Bridge, constructed in 1915, is a one-lane road that provides local access to both the east and west sides of the Merrimack River in Concord, without the need to access I-93. A recent analysis of the bridge’s condition downgraded the bridge’s weight limit to three tons, a move that lengthened emergency response times to certain areas of Concord.
Earlier this year, Senator Shaheen and Congresswoman Annie Kuster (NH-02) urged Secretary of Transportation Anthony Foxx to expedite the replacement of the bridge because of public safety concerns. During tomorrow’s tour, Shaheen and Kuster will be briefed on the status of the replacement project by Concord city officials including Mayor Jim Bouley. Shaheen will then deliver remarks highlighting the need to replace the bridge.
Later in the afternoon Shaheen will visit Rosewood at Gagnon Farms Housing Development in Nashua, NH at 2:45 p.m. for a briefing on the energy efficient features of the development. Shaheen will discuss her energy efficiency legislation and tour the new housing development. Hudson based Ashwood Development Companies, Inc., the developer of the project, has constructed more than 2000 homes in New Hampshire and Massachusetts.
