ICYMI: Shaheen Honored with CASA Child Advocacy Award
Senator Shaheen accepts the Director's Award at CASA's 'At the Heart Event' in Concord on Friday night.
(Concord, NH) – On Friday night, U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) attended the Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of New Hampshire’s At the Heart event, where she was awarded the Director’s Award for her commitment to improving the lives of New Hampshire children. At the Heart is an annual event to honor CASA’s more than 600 volunteer advocates and their impact on children who have experienced abuse and neglect.
“I’m honored to accept this year’s Director’s Award. Here in New Hampshire, CASAs are instrumental in advocating on behalf of children experiencing abuse or neglect. This life-changing work ensures that children’s best interests are at the forefront of important decisions, providing them a voice in difficult district and family court proceedings,” said Shaheen on Friday. “I’ll keep fighting to ensure that New Hampshire’s CASAs have the resources necessary to do this critical work.”
CASA of New Hampshire provides a voice for abused and neglected children and youth through a statewide network of trained volunteers who advocate on the children’s behalf so they can thrive in safe, permanent homes.
As a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, Shaheen secured $100,000 in congressional directed spending for CASA to build a more robust operation to offer services and aid to children victimized by abuse and neglect. This funding will allow CASA to hire additional staff in every department of the organization, expanding services to all children and families in need.
