In Claremont, Shaheen Encourages Planned Parenthood Staff, Denounces Attacks on Women’s Reproductive Healthcare
**Her call follows the indictment in Texas of anti-choice group that produced deceptive videos of Planned Parenthood staff**
**Shaheen takes a tour of clinic that was vandalized twice last year**
(Washington, DC) – Today, U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) visited the Planned Parenthood clinic in Claremont that was vandalized twice last year and delivered words of encouragement to staff. The second attack on the facility in October of last year forced it to close for nearly six weeks. Senator Shaheen’s visit follows a Texas grand jury’s decision to indict members of the so-called Center for Medical Progress (CMP), the organization that produced highly edited, deceptive videos, using potentially illegal methods, of Planned Parenthood officials.
“I have to admire the courage and compassion of all the staff of the Claremont Planned Parenthood clinic,” said Shaheen. “Despite threats, intimidation and even vandalism, they’ve remained dedicated to providing critical healthcare services to women. This facility is providing affordable preventive care such as family planning services, breast and cervical cancer screenings, and immunizations, and should have the full backing of our elected officials in Concord and Washington. The deplorable acts of vandalism committed here are part of the relentless assault on Planned Parenthood and women’s reproductive rights. In the Senate, I’ll continue to stand with Planned Parenthood and defend the important care they provide to women in New Hampshire and across the country.”
Earlier this month, Senator Shaheen sent a letter to Republican leadership in the House and the Senate calling for an end to politically-motivated congressional investigations into Planned Parenthood, in light of the many independent state investigations across the country that have cleared Planned Parenthood of wrongdoing.
