NH Delegation Calls on President to Grant Disaster Declaration for Grafton County
(Washington, DC) – Today, U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) led a letter with Senator Maggie Hassan (D-NH) and Representatives Annie Kuster (NH-02) and Chris Pappas (NH-01) urging President Trump to issue a Major Disaster Declaration for the state of New Hampshire following a severe storm on July 11th, which led to flash flooding and significant damage to state and local infrastructure in Grafton County. The cost associated with the July storm is approximately $2.9 million statewide.
“As a result of the July 2019 storm, New Hampshire communities, specifically those in Grafton County, experienced a dangerous combination of strong winds, severe rain and flash flooding that imposed significant property damage and overwhelmed state, municipal and county budgets and resources. The magnitude of the damage caused by this storm is such that an effective response is beyond the capacity of New Hampshire’s state and local governments, justifying federal assistance,” the delegation wrote. “We urge you to grant a Major Disaster Declaration for New Hampshire as soon as possible in order to ensure that our state and towns have access to the resources and assistance they need to fully recover from this emergency.”
