SATURDAY IN MANCHESTER: SHAHEEN TO KICK OFF FIRST ROBOTICS COMPETITION

Monday Shaheen will meet with officials in Atkinson to discuss ongoing water contamination issues. Shaheen will also visit the NH Office of Energy and Planning and the NH Community Action Programs in Dover to discuss the importance of LIHEAP funding.

U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) will be joined by Governor Maggie Hassan and former Governor John Lynch to help kick off the 2014 FIRST Robotics Competition at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 4, in Manchester, NH.  The annual event brings high school robotics teams from New Hampshire and around the region together to compete in engineering challenges. Shaheen has been a strong supporter of the FIRST Robotics program which promotes science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education.

Next week, Shaheen will meet with town officials and Department of Environmental Services representatives in Atkinson on Monday, January 6 at 12:00 p.m. to discuss the ongoing issues with 1,4 Dioxane contamination in residential wells. Last month, Shaheen along with Senator Ayotte and Congresswomen Kuster requested that the EPA connect all households impacted by the contamination to a new water main to help ensure reliable access to safe drinking water.

Shaheen will also visit officials from the New Hampshire Office of Energy and Planning and the New Hampshire Community Action Programs in Dover at 10:00 a.m. on Monday to discuss challenges in providing low-income families with heating assistance. Shaheen has been a strong proponent of the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIEAHP) and will highlight her efforts to protect funding for the program.
