Senate Passes Shaheen, Hassan Bipartisan Resolution Designating Sept. 30th – Oct. 6th National Community Policing Week

(Washington, DC) – Today, U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Maggie Hassan (D-NH) announced the passage of their Senate Resolution designating September 30th through October 6th as “National Community Policing Week.” Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) also sponsored the legislation. The bipartisan resolution recognizes the service and sacrifice of the law enforcement community, and underscores the importance of community policing, which forges bonds between police officers and community members. The resolution encourages civilians, law enforcement agencies and public servants to work together to find solutions for communities to improve public safety, strengthen relationships and build trust. 

“Community oriented policing is vital to public safety. Built on trust and transparency, it promotes partnerships between law enforcement and members of the communities in which they serve,” said Senator Shaheen.  “I appreciate the bipartisan support for this resolution, which both honors the service and sacrifice of our police officers, and bolsters public safety efforts in our neighborhoods.  I’ll continue to work across the aisle to advance legislation that empowers our police officers with the resources they need to safely and efficiently protect and serve Granite State families.”

As the lead Democrat of the Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies Appropriations Subcommittee, Shaheen helps secure funding for the Department of Justice’s Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) programs.
