Shaheen and Hassan Introduce Legislation to Designate a Unique Zip Code for Swanzey, NH
(Washington, DC) – Today, U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Maggie Hassan (D-NH) introduced legislation to require the United States Postal Service to designate a single, unique ZIP code for Swanzey, New Hampshire. North Swanzey is fully incorporated in the town Swanzey, but shares the 03431 ZIP code with Keene, instead of the 03446 ZIP code for the rest of Swanzey. The lack of a uniform ZIP code has led to mis-delivered or delayed mail and slowed emergency response times.
“The lack of a consistent ZIP code in Swanzey not only hinders delivery of mail, but also creates confusion that can prevent emergency responders from quickly getting to an address,” said Senator Shaheen. “This is a simple legislative fix that is long overdue and will improve the delivery of public services throughout Swanzey and provide clarity for all Swanzey residents.”
“We have heard from Swanzey residents, small businesses, and first responders about the challenges they face as a result of not having a consistent ZIP code,” Senator Hassan said. “Addressing this issue will require passing legislation, and our bill is a common-sense way to help improve public safety and reduce mis-delivered and delayed mail.”
