Shaheen and Hassan Re-Introduce Legislation to Designate a Unique Zip Code for Swanzey, NH

(Washington, D.C.) – Yesterday, U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Maggie Hassan (D-NH) re-introduced legislation to require the United States Postal Service to designate a single, unique ZIP code for Swanzey, New Hampshire. North Swanzey is fully incorporated in the town of Swanzey, but shares the 03431 ZIP code with Keene, instead of the 03446 ZIP code for the rest of Swanzey. The lack of a uniform ZIP code has led to mis-delivered or delayed mail and slowed emergency response times.

“The lack of a consistent ZIP code in Swanzey hinders the delivery of mail and risks compromising public safety when first responders need to quickly get to an address,” said Senator Shaheen. “This is a simple legislative fix that is long overdue and will improve the daily life of Swanzey residents.”

“Swanzey residents, small businesses, and first responders all agree – it is long past time that we designate a single, unique zip code for this community,” Senator Hassan said. “In doing so, our bill will help prevent delays in emergency response in the area, and ensure that North Swanzey residents get their mail delivered to the correct address.”
