SHAHEEN ANNOUNCES $125,000 FOR CLEAN ENERGY JOB TRAINING AT LAKES REGION COMMUNITY COLLEGE

(Washington, DC)-U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen today announced that her request to expand clean energy job training at the Lakes Region Community College (LRCC) has been approved by the Senate Appropriations Committee. Shaheen secured $125,000 to enhance educational and laboratory materials for LRCC's Energy Services & Technology Program. The legislation will now go to the full Senate for final passage.

"As our nation moves toward the clean energy economy of the future, it's important New Hampshire has the support and resources it needs to train our workers for new jobs in this emerging field," said Shaheen.  "New Hampshire has long led the way in alternative energy programs, and Lakes Region Community College is no exception.  This funding will help them expand their innovative clean energy programs and create new job opportunities in the community."

"Lakes Region Community College is grateful for the continuing support of Senator Shaheen," said LRCC President Mark Edelstein.  "The Senator clearly recognizes the importance of our Energy Services program and the role it can play in the development of alternative energy and conservation industries in New Hampshire."

The Energy Services & Technology Program prepares students for careers in energy auditing, energy analysis, resource conservation management, and related fields. The funds will be used to purchase classroom and demonstration equipment (including solar, HVAC, geothermal and wind power equipment), develop written and web-based instructional materials, and set up a demonstration site for the technology on campus.

The funding was approved by the Appropriations Committee as part of the Fiscal Year 2010 Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies Appropriations Bill, which includes $3,854,000 for projects in New Hampshire.
