SHAHEEN ANNOUNCES $150,000 FOR NEW COOS COUNTY HEALTH CENTER

(Washington, D.C.) - U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen today announced that her request to support the construction of a new 24,000 square foot health center for Coos County Family Health Services (CCFHS) has been approved by the Senate Appropriations Committee.  Shaheen secured $150,000 for the project, which will allow CCFHS to increase access to the facility and better serve its patients.  These funds were included in the Fiscal Year 2011 Labor-Health and Human Services Appropriations bill, which is now ready for consideration by the full Senate.

"Providing access to quality affordable health care has been a priority of mine in the Senate, but that goal would not be possible without outstanding community partners like Coos County Family Health Services," said Shaheen.  "No family should face bankruptcy because of health care bills, and I am pleased to support a project that will allow Coos County Family Health Services to provide health care to countless more families regardless of their economic status."

"On behalf of the patients, staff, and Board of Coos County Family Health Services I am extremely grateful to Senator Shaheen for obtaining this funding for a new facility for CCFHS," said Adele Woods, CEO of Coos County Family Health Services.  "During the past year we have seen an increase in uninsured and underinsured patients who need not only primary and preventive health care services but also on-site behavioral and oral health services.  It is our sincere hope that with a new medical office that encompasses comprehensive clinical services CCFHS will be better able to serve the citizens of the Androscoggin Valley."

Coos County Family Health Services provides high quality, personalized health care and social services for 19,000 people in the Berlin/Gorham area, regardless of their ability to pay.  The new facility will expand the number of exam rooms, improve work flow, and increase productivity by consolidating two clinics and providing space for new medical technology.
