SHAHEEN ANNOUNCES ECONOMIC RECOVERY PACKAGE WILL DELIVER OVER $9.7 MILLION FOR NEW HAMPSHIRE LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES
Economic recovery funding awarded through Byrne Justice Assistance Grant Program will send over $3.5 million directly to towns and cities, another $6.2 million will go to the state for further distribution
(Washington, D.C.) – U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen announced today that the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act will deliver $9,774,576 to New Hampshire under the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program. Today’s announcement includes detailed funding levels for towns, cities, counties and the state that were determined by pre-existing federal formulas based on population and crime statistics.
“Our state and local communities are facing severe budget crunches during this economic crisis, and this important funding will help law enforcement agencies avoid cuts to essential programs that fight crime and keep our communities safe,” said Shaheen. “I’m pleased this funding from the economic recovery package will reach our communities quickly to help get our economy back on track.”
The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program allows states, tribes, and local governments to support a broad range of activities to prevent and control crime based on their own local needs and conditions. Grant funds can be used for state and local initiatives, technical assistance, training, personnel, equipment, supplies, contractual support, and information systems for criminal justice for any one or more of the following purpose areas: 1) law enforcement programs; 2) prosecution and court programs; 3) prevention and education programs; 4) corrections and community corrections programs; 5) drug treatment programs; and 6) planning, evaluation, and technology improvement programs.
