SHAHEEN ANNOUNCES NH TO RECEIVE $40.9 MILLION FOR EDUCATION

(Washington, D.C.) - U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen today announced that New Hampshire will receive $40.9 million in aid to the state for education from the U.S. Department of Education.  New Hampshire is one of the first states in the nation to receive these funds.

"Today's announcement of additional federal funds to the state of New Hampshire will provide necessary fiscal relief to the state.  During these challenging economic times, this money will help the state prevent cuts to critical services and help avoid tax increases"  Shaheen said.

"I commend New Hampshire for being one of the first to submit their application," said Secretary Arne Duncan of the U.S. Department of Education.

The $10 billion education fund was supported by Senator Shaheen.  It is distributed to states by a formula based on population figures.
