Shaheen Applauds Announcement of $1 Billion Loan Guarantee for Ukraine
As top Democrat on the Foreign Affairs Subcommittee for European Affairs, Senator Shaheen led a Senate delegation earlier this month to Ukraine
(Washington, DC) – U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) applauded today’s announcement that the United States government will provide a third loan guarantee of $1 billion to support Ukraine.
“I recently saw firsthand the resolve of Ukraine’s leaders to improve their economy, root out corruption, and stand united against Russian aggression,” said Shaheen. “This new loan guarantee sends a message to the people of Ukraine that they have a partner in the United States as they continue to strengthen their economy and reform government institutions.”
Senator Shaheen has been a strong supporter of additional loan guarantees for Ukraine. Earlier this month, she led a Senate delegation to Ukraine that met with senior government officials, including Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk and President Petro Poroshenko. The senators were briefed on the on-going aggression from Russia that threatens to destabilize the country, as well as the country’s economic situation and efforts to address corruption in Ukrainian government and institutions.
