Shaheen Applauds Trump Administration Order to Shutter Several Russian Diplomatic Facilities
(Washington, DC)—U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen, the only woman on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, issued the following statement after the Trump administration ordered three Russian diplomatic facilities closed in retaliation for Russia’s removal of hundreds of U.S. diplomatic personnel.
“I applaud the decision to shutter three Russian diplomatic facilities and alter the processing of U.S. visas. These actions are an entirely appropriate response to Russia’s staff reductions at the U.S. mission which negatively affects Russian citizens as well as U.S. citizens in Russia,” said Shaheen. “Even as the Kremlin threatens ‘retaliatory measures,’ we know that this is not a tit-for-tat exchange. This chain of events would not have happened if the Kremlin had not intruded in our elections and in democracies worldwide. It’s critical that the United States not back down to Putin’s aggression and respond forcefully as the administration has done today.”
