SHAHEEN APPOINTED TO SMALL BUSINESS COMMITTEE
New Hampshire small business leaders applaud Shaheen's new committee appointment
(Washington, D.C.) – U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen announced today that she has been appointed to the U.S. Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, the primary committee responsible for promoting and protecting American small businesses.
“To recover from this recession, we’ll need to create millions of new jobs, and one of the best ways to do that is to encourage the creation and growth of small businesses,” said Shaheen. “As a former small business owner, I know firsthand that small businesses are the engine that drives our economy, especially in New Hampshire. I’m honored to join the Small Business Committee, and I look forward to working with Chairwoman Landrieu and my colleagues on the Committee to help revitalize American small businesses, create jobs, and get our economy back on track.”
Commissioner of the New Hampshire Department of Resources and Economic Development George Bald stated: “Senator Shaheen’s appointment to the Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship is great news for New Hampshire’s small businesses. When Shaheen was Governor, our state added 66,000 new jobs, and small businesses thrived. She knows how to protect existing small businesses and promote new ones, and we couldn’t have a better advocate on the Small Business Committee.”
Co-founder of GT Solar Incorporated of Merrimack, NH and current CEO of Arc Energy in Nashua, New Hampshire Kedar Gupta stated: “In this struggling economy, small businesses need all the support they can get, and I have no doubt Senator Shaheen will be a strong advocate for New Hampshire’s small businesses. When Jeanne Shaheen was Governor, she created jobs for New Hampshire. I know, because we worked together to do so. Shaheen knows firsthand the challenges that small businesses face, and that experience will be invaluable as she works to promote New Hampshire’s small businesses on the Small Business Committee.”
Small businesses play a crucial role in New Hampshire’s economy. In 2007, the Small Business Administration estimated that there were over 145,000 small businesses in New Hampshire.
In addition to her Small Business Committee appointment, Shaheen has been named to the Committee on Energy and Natural Resources and the Committee on Foreign Relations.
