SHAHEEN: AS SENATE FAILS TO ACT, 28,000 AMERICANS LOSE UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS THIS WEEKEND

Senate To Take Up Unemployment Compensation Extension Act Monday Evening

(Washington, D.C.) - U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen released the following statement in response to news that the Senate will not consider the Unemployment Compensation Extension Act until Monday, November 2.  The bill, which Shaheen helped author, has been delayed for nearly a month for political purposes.

"Over this weekend, another 28,000 jobless Americans will have their safety net pulled out from under them.  It is unconscionable to hold up a desperately needed unemployment benefits extension for another four days just to score political points.  I hope we can come back Monday ready to put politics aside and pass this critical legislation."
