Shaheen Calls Trump's Plan to Rollback Stream and Wetland Protections "Reckless" and "Direct Threat to Water Quality in New Hampshire”
(Washington, DC) — U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) issued the following statement following reports that the Trump administration is considering revoking Environmental Protection Agency regulations that protect New England's streams and wetlands:
"Protecting our streams and wetlands is about preserving our natural environment and preventing chemicals from making their way into our drinking water," said Shaheen. "Considering the substantial water contamination challenges New Hampshire already faces, it's absolutely reckless of the Trump administration to be overruling hard science and siding with special interests to rollback these important wetland regulations. Allowing at-will dumping of pollutants into New Hampshire's valuable wetlands without even requiring a permit is a direct threat to water quality in our state. I urge the Trump administration to step back from this proposal and I urge Granite Staters of all political stripes to speak out in opposition."
