SHAHEEN: DISAPPOINTED THAT HOUSE REJECTED BIPARTISAN, LONG-TERM EXTENSION OF TRANSPORTATION BILL

(Washington, D.C.) – U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) released the below statement after the U.S. House of Representatives today rejected the opportunity to pass a bipartisan, long-term extension of a critical transportation bill.

“I am disappointed that the House of Representatives refused to pass a long-term highway bill that would have supported nearly 2 million jobs and allowed for crucial infrastructure investments,” Shaheen said. “All around the country there are projects like I-93 that would create jobs and spur economic development,  but are stalled as companies and local governments wait to see what funding they can expect. Businesses and transportation officials need to plan for their futures and we should not expect them to redo their budgets every 90 days.”

Yesterday Shaheen spoke on the Senate Floor and hosted a press conference call on the issue.  Her floor remarks are here.
