Shaheen, Hassan and Kuster Announce More than $1.6 Million for Keene Dillant-Hopkins Airport
**Support for airports was a priority for Shaheen during CARES Act negotiations**
(Washington, DC) – Today, U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, and U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan (D-NH) and Congresswoman Annie Kuster (NH-02) announced that Keene Dillant-Hopkins Airport will receive $1,611,110 to rehabilitate taxiway pavement at the facility. Specifically, the funding was awarded by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) through federal dollars allocated by the CARES Act and government funding legislation passed by Congress and signed into law in December.
The continued maintenance and operation of New Hampshire airports like Keene Dillant-Hopkins is needed to promote economic growth, ensure essential workers and supplies are able to reach the state and keep necessary travel open and available for Granite State businesses and industries. Senator Shaheen successfully led efforts, joined by Senator Hassan, in the Senate to provide funding to airports in the CARES Act.
“New Hampshire’s regional airports are a crucial component of our state’s infrastructure and play an important role in our response to COVID-19, boosting economic growth and facilitating necessary shipping and travel in the areas they serve,” said Senator Shaheen. “This taxiway rehabilitation project is a valuable investment that will go a long way in bolstering safety and operations at Keene Dillant-Hopkins Airport. Ensuring New Hampshire infrastructure projects like this have the federal assistance they need will always be a top priority for me in the Senate.”
“This $1.6 million federal grant, including supplemental funding through the CARES Act, to Keene Dillant-Hopkins Airport will help shore up economic opportunity for the surrounding community and strengthen operations at this important regional airport,” Senator Hassan said. “As the pandemic continues to put a strain on airports across the state, I am committed to securing much-needed federal investments to support these transportation hubs and improve our infrastructure.”
“To continue responding to this pandemic and build back our economy in New Hampshire, we must ensure our local infrastructure is fully-equipped to serve the public,” said Congresswoman Kuster. “This CARES Act funding will help rehabilitate the Keene Dillant-Hopkins Airport, support our regional COVID-19 response, and enhance our state’s transportation systems. I will continue working in Congress to bolster NH’s infrastructure and bring support to those who need it during this public health crisis.”
