SHAHEEN: IRAN LEGISLATION PASSED BY SENATE WILL ENSURE PROPER ROLE FOR CONGRESS
(Washington, DC)—After passage of legislation in the Senate that would allow Congress to review a potential nuclear deal with Iran, Senator Shaheen made the following statement:
“I’m very pleased that the Senate has passed legislation, nearly unanimously, that reaffirms Congress’s proper role in providing oversight of the President’s foreign policy, while still allowing the administration to pursue a hard-nosed agreement with Iran to curtail its nuclear capabilities,” said Shaheen. “There is broad agreement in Congress that Iran must not be allowed to acquire a nuclear weapon, and this vote affirms that the people’s elected representatives should have the opportunity to review any final agreement with Iran.”
The legislation passed by a vote of 98-1. Senator Shaheen is a Member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and the Senate Armed Services Committee.
