SHAHEEN MEETS WITH PRIME MINISTER OF GEORGIA, NIKA GILAURI
U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), the Chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on European Affairs, today met with Georgian Prime Minister Nika Gilauri at her Washington office. Shaheen and Gilauri spoke about political developments in the South Caucasus, U.S.-Georgia relations, the upcoming 2012 NATO Summit in Chicago, and Georgia’s economic and trade initiatives. Shaheen and U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) sponsored a resolution affirming U.S. support for Georgia’s territorial integrity, which passed the Senate in July, and co-chair a bipartisan task force on Georgia. Shaheen met with Georgia President Mikheil Saakashvili in March. Georgian Ambassador to the United States Temuri Yakobashvili also attended today’s meeting.
