(Washington, DC) – U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on European Affairs and a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, released the below statement regarding the Obama administration’s announcement of the following nominations to its national security team:  CIA Director Leon Panetta to serve as Secretary of Defense, General David Petraeus to serve as CIA Director, Ambassador Ryan Crocker to serve as U.S. Ambassador to Afghanistan, and Lt. Gen. John Allen to serve as Commander of U.S. Forces in Afghanistan.

“All four of these men have shown a deep dedication to public and military service, and I salute their commitment to furthering America’s national security objectives—especially given the complex national security challenges we currently face,” said Shaheen.  “As a member of both the Senate Foreign Relations and Armed Services Committees, I look forward to working with them during the confirmation process.”
