SHAHEEN ON NEW TRAVEL BAN: DOESN’T REFLECT OUR VALUES AND ONLY MAKES US LESS SAFE

(Washington, DC)—Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) issued the following statement in response to the Trump administration’s announcement of a new travel ban that overwhelmingly targets Muslim immigrants from Muslim-majority nations:

“President Trump’s new ban doubles down on his misguided policy of targeting immigrants and other travelers from Muslim-majority nations,” said Shaheen. “To shore up our borders and improve our national defense, we need policies rooted in intelligence and security – not division and fear. Just like the previous orders, this ban does not reflect our country’s values and only makes us less safe by reinforcing terrorist propaganda and recruitment. Immigrants make up the fabric of this country, and they continue to enrich our communities and strengthen our economy. America must remain open and continue to be a refuge for those seeking a better life.”
