Shaheen on Trump Budget Outline Eliminating the Northern Border Regional Commission
**SHAHEEN: “The Trump Administration’s shortsighted budget would be a real blow to jobs in Northern New Hampshire.”**
(Washington, DC) — U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) released the following statement after reviewing the budget outline released by the Trump administration for fiscal year 2018, which includes the elimination of the Northern Border Regional Commission (NBRC). The NBRC has invested millions in economic development projects in Coos, Grafton, Carroll and Sullivan counties.
“The Trump Administration’s shortsighted budget would be a real blow to jobs in Northern New Hampshire,” said Shaheen. “The Northern Border Regional Commission helps some of our most economically distressed areas capitalize on local assets. Recent Commission investments have brought important employment and infrastructure developments to the community, and provided funding for treatment and recovery services to help battle the opioid epidemic. President Trump’s proposed elimination of the Northern Border Regional Commission is mindless and ignores the economic needs of Northern New Hampshire. I will fight this in the Senate to ensure his Administration doesn’t take New Hampshire’s rural economy backward.”
