SHAHEEN PROMOTES JOB CREATION OPPORTUNITIES AT NASHUA'S MONUMENT CONSTRUCTION

Shaheen tours veteran-owned business, highlights company's expansion supported by critical SBA lending program

(Nashua, NH) - U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) visited Monument Construction this afternoon in Nashua to tour the company's facility and showcase their efforts to hire New Hampshire veterans. The headquarters is currently undergoing construction that was supported by a Small Business Administration (SBA) loan available to select businesses to help them expand and create jobs.

“We owe it to our veterans to support them in every possible way, and one of most important things we can do is to make sure our veterans have good paying jobs when they return home,” Shaheen said. “Monument Construction is setting a great example by helping our veterans find meaningful work.”

Monument Construction, LLC is a verified Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) that works with multiple federal agencies – including the Department of Defense (DOD) and Veterans Affairs (VA) – on construction and renovation projects. As a SDVOSB, the SBA recognizes Monument Construction for exclusive competition for certain contracting awards which can help grow their business. Monument Construction’s current renovation and expansion projects are supported by the SBA 504 lending program, which helps small businesses get access to long-term credit so they can expand their business, and in turn, drive economic growth and job creation.

“The renovations at Monument Construction were made possible because of an SBA-backed loan, which is helping finance Monument’s expanding operations and supporting jobs for New Hampshire veterans,” Shaheen added. “Bolstering economic opportunities for our veterans must be part of a larger promise our country makes to everyone who has served in uniform.”

Shaheen has made supporting small businesses in New Hampshire a priority of hers in the Senate. Last year, the Senate Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee passed Shaheen’s bipartisan legislation to permanently reauthorize the SBA 504 refinance program, which supported nearly 500 loans for a total of $144 million dollars in New Hampshire in FY 2013 alone. Shaheen also helped craft the landmark Small Business Jobs Act which provides unprecedented support for small businesses. The bill cut taxes by billions for small businesses and made it easier for small companies to expand into overseas markets. Shaheen has also championed the State Trade Export Promotion (STEP) grant and the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program.
