(Manchester, NH) – U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) was a guest reader for Matthew Thornton Elementary School students in Londonderry, New Hampshire to help highlight the school’s book fair, which runs through November 8th. Shaheen’s video aims to share the joy and excitement of reading with students and encourage them to find a book to read.
Shaheen read Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein, a collection of humorous, imaginative poems that have been childhood classics for decades. You can view Senator Shaheen’s video here.
“During such a difficult and stressful time for New Hampshire’s children, reading has never been more important. It is such a powerful tool, allowing kids to be transported to new, faraway lands, create friendships with new characters, feel hope and alleviate uncertainty and doubt,” said Shaheen. “I’m thankful to the teachers and administrators at Matthew Thornton for giving me the opportunity to join their students and share in the excitement of reading. I applaud them for their tremendous work during this pandemic to keep up the spirits of their students and ensure they continue to get the best education possible.”
