SHAHEEN RECEIVES PERFECT SCORE FOR ENVIRONMENTAL, PUBLIC HEALTH RECORD

(Washington, D.C.)  - The League of Conversation Voters recognized U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) today for her record of protecting public health and the environment. Shaheen received a 100 percent rating on the National Environmental Scorecard for her votes in the 112^th Congress and has been a leading voice on energy issues, particularly with a focus on energy efficiency and clean energy technologies, throughout her career.

“Senator Shaheen was on the right side on every important environmental and public health vote last year. Senator Shaheen’s 100% rating on the 2012 National Environmental Scorecard is a clear sign that in a year of extreme weather nationwide, she stood up to corporate polluters and their allies and did what’s best for the people of New Hampshire,” said Gene Karpinski, President of the League of Conservation Voters.

Creating a clean, energy efficient economy has been a top priority for Shaheen throughout her career.  Last year she introduced the bipartisan Shaheen-Portman Energy Savings and Industrial Competitiveness Act (S.1000) which was supported by a broad coalition of business and environmental leaders from across the country. Several provisions of the legislation, which focus on industrial and federal agency efficiency, were signed into law in December. Shaheen and Portman plan to introduce new energy efficiency legislation in the near future.
