SHAHEEN RECEIVES PERFECT SCORE FOR ENVIRONMENTAL, PUBLIC HEALTH RECORD

League of Conservation Voters applauds Shaheen for record in 112th Congress

(Washington, D.C.)  - The League of Conversation Voters recognized U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) today for her record of protecting public health and the environment. Shaheen received a 100 percent rating on the National Environmental Scorecard for her votes in the 112th Congress and has been a leading voice on energy issues, particularly with a focus on energy efficiency and clean energy technologies, throughout her career.

“Senator Shaheen was on the right side on every important environmental and public health vote last year. Senator Shaheen’s 100% rating on the 2012 National Environmental Scorecard is a clear sign that in a year of extreme weather nationwide, she stood up to corporate polluters and their allies and did what’s best for the people of New Hampshire,” said Gene Karpinski, President of the League of Conservation Voters.

Creating a clean, energy efficient economy has been a top priority for Shaheen throughout her career.  Last year she introduced the bipartisan Shaheen-Portman Energy Savings and Industrial Competitiveness Act (S.1000) which was supported by a broad coalition of business and environmental leaders from across the country. Several provisions of the legislation, which focus on industrial and federal agency efficiency, were signed into law in December. Shaheen and Portman plan to introduce new energy efficiency legislation in the near future.

“Today we face unprecedented energy and environmental challenges, but I’m proud to have made progress on key measures to help create jobs in New Hampshire and a cleaner, more efficient use of energy across our country.  Protecting our environment and public health, reducing our dependence on foreign oil and are top priorities of mine and  I am honored to have the recognition of a group like the League of Conservation Voters who are so seriously committed to these issues,” said Senator Shaheen. “There is much more to be done in the coming years and I look forward to continuing my work, along with the LCV, to implement comprehensive energy policies that protect our health and environment for the future.”
