Shaheen Responds to Trump Administration’s Proposal to Repeal Clean Power Plan
(Washington, DC)— Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) released the following statement in response to Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt’s announcement that the Trump administration will repeal the Clean Power Plan:
“The Trump administration’s decision to roll back the Clean Power Plan continues a dangerous agenda that will harm the environment and public health,” said Shaheen. “We owe it to future generations to build on the Clean Power Plan and incentivize energy efficiency and the transition to cleaner, renewable forms of energy. By beginning efforts to roll back this critical rule, the Trump administration is ignoring the devastating effects of climate change and the glaring action needed to combat the environmental threats we face here and around the globe. Rising temperatures interrupt New Hampshire’s fall foliage season and maple syrup production, directly impeding our business and tourism sectors, and elevated sea levels put the homes and livelihoods of our Seacoast families at risk. I urge the President to consult with scientists and environmental experts, and to reconsider this decision, which, if implemented, will have very real consequences for the future of our country and planet.”
