SHAHEEN STATEMENT AFTER VOTE ON PARTISAN ZIKA PROPOSAL
**Shaheen: Republican leadership should be working in a bipartisan manner to address public health emergencies, not exploiting them as opportunities to pass a hyper-partisan agenda**
(Washington, D.C.) -- U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) issued the following statement after today’s vote against the partisan Republican bicameral proposal to respond to the Zika virus:
“Republican leadership should be working in a bipartisan manner to address public health emergencies, not exploiting them as opportunities to pass a hyper-partisan agenda,” said Shaheen. “Congress is woefully late in providing resources to address Zika. It’s absolutely shameful that the only proposal allowed a vote in the Senate to address this emergency would rollback access to women’s reproductive healthcare and ram-through a number of other highly partisan provisions. Zika poses a very real threat to Americans and this is not the time to be playing partisan games with a public health emergency.”
