Shaheen Statement Following Her Meeting with Secretary of State Nominee Rex Tillerson

(Washington, DC)—Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, issued the following statement after her meeting this morning with President-elect Donald Trump’s nominee to serve as Secretary of State, former Exxon Mobile CEO Rex Tillerson:

“I appreciated the opportunity to have a broad conversation with Mr. Tillerson about his views on the many challenges that the next Secretary of State will face,” said Shaheen. “We discussed his extensive experience in the private sector and the principles that would guide his judgement as a public servant. I stressed the importance of the NATO alliance, our international agreements to combat climate change, our efforts to prevent Iran from developing a nuclear weapon, and our programs that empower women and girls around the world. I look forward to discussing these issues further in his confirmation hearing."
