SHAHEEN STATEMENT FOLLOWING MEETING WITH KAGAN

(Washington, D.C.) - U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen released the following statement today after meeting with Solicitor General Elena Kagan:

"I first met Solicitor General Elena Kagan when she was the Dean of Harvard Law School and I was the Director of the Institute of Politics at the Kennedy School. I was impressed with her then, and I remain impressed with her now."

"In our meeting today, Solicitor General Kagan told me about how her experience as Solicitor General, where she interacts daily with the Supreme Court and the cases under its consideration, has especially prepared her for the nation's highest court.  She also discussed her views regarding the need to build more consensus on the court.  I found Solicitor General Kagan to be empathetic, extremely intelligent, and someone who understands the importance of listening.  I look forward to a fair and quick confirmation process."
