Shaheen Statement Following the President Trump's Firing of AG Sessions

(Washington, DC)—U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), the lead Democrat on the Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies Appropriations subcommittee, issued the following statement:

“The President is not above the law which is why it is incredibly concerning that President Trump has fired the Attorney General and handpicked an acting Attorney General who will now oversee Special Counsel Mueller’s investigation,” said Shaheen. “Based on Matthew Whitaker’s previous statements, he should recuse himself from overseeing the Mueller probe. It is also imperative that Republican leadership finally allow bipartisan legislation to move forward that will protect the investigation. Republicans and Democrats must set politics aside to protect the rule of law in our country.”
