SHAHEEN STATEMENT IN CELEBRATION OF INDEPENDENCE DAY AND IN HONOR OF THE AMERICAN TROOPS SERVING OVERSEAS
(Washington, DC)-U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen released the below statement today in honor of Independence Day and the American troops serving overseas. Shaheen is in Kuwait today visiting with American troops and diplomats serving in the Middle East
"Today we celebrate America's birthday and the freedom we enjoy every day as
citizens of this great nation. In the United States, the Fourth of July
is a day filled with family, friends, food, and fireworks, but for our troops
and diplomats serving overseas it is yet another day of service and selfless
sacrifice for our country.
"In the Middle East today, where more than 100,000 Americans are serving
their country, the temperature will reach as high as 114 degrees. Our men and
women in uniform will go on patrol in a sweltering, dangerous, and uncertain
region to secure American interests thousands of miles from home.
"As we celebrate the freedom and liberties that we have been blessed with
this weekend, let us all take some time to remember and thank those men and
women in uniform, past and present, who made this celebration possible."
