SHAHEEN STATEMENT IN SUPPORT OF RICHARD CORDRAY AS NEXT DIRECTOR OF THE CONSUMER FINANCIAL PROTECTION BUREAU
(Washington, DC) – U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) today released the following statement in support of the nomination of Richard Cordray to be Director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau:
“For too long Wall Street engaged in reckless behavior that seriously harmed our economy, with little regard for regular Americans struggling to support their families and plan their financial futures.
“The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau will play an important role in protecting consumers and helping families get clear, accurate information that will better enable them to make sound financial decisions about everything from mortgages to credit cards.
“But right now the Bureau is handcuffed from functioning at full capacity because it does not have a director. That is why I am calling on the Senate to confirm Mr. Richard Cordray quickly to show that Congress is committed to protecting consumers, not big banks. “
