SHAHEEN STATEMENT ON ANNOUNCED RETIREMENT OF MARYLAND SENATOR BARBARA MIKULSKI

U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) released the following statement after U.S. Senator Barbara Mikulski (D-MD), the longest serving women in Senate history, announced that she would not seek reelection in 2016:

“Barbara Mikulski is one of the most hardworking and dedicated public servants I’ve ever had the honor of working with. For nearly three decades Barbara has been a trailblazer, becoming the first woman to be elected to the Senate from Maryland and later the first woman in history to chair the Senate Appropriations Committee, and she has inspired countless women along the way. I’m honored to call Barbara a friend and look forward to working together over the next two years to add to her impressive legacy.”
