Shaheen Statement on Approval of Governor Haley to Serve as Ambassador to the United Nations

(Washington, DC)—Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, released the following statement after voting to approve the nomination of Governor Nikki Haley to serve as Ambassador to the United Nations. The Senate approved her nomination by a vote of 96 to 4.

“While I remain very concerned about how President Trump will act on many of our nation’s foreign policy challenges, Governor Haley made it clear during her confirmation hearing that she believes in the UN and its important work around the globe, and that she will not shy away from sharing those views with the President,” said Shaheen. “I was encouraged by her stated commitment to human rights issues, particularly in the context of Russia’s role on the UN Security Council. I hope to work with Governor Haley to ensure the U.S. remains a leading voice at the UN as the global community responds to serious humanitarian crises and conflicts which are affecting U.S. national security.”
